James Edward Heumann

  1. Academic Degrees
    1. M.S.  Chemical and Environmental Engineering

University of CA, Riverside - 2003

    1. B.S. Environmental Engineering

  1. Relevant Professional Experience
    1. 2005 – Present             Chemical Engineer        URS Corp.

Project lead in diverse array of air quality projects.  Expansion of role as an expert in air dispersion modeling including development of algorithms in exposure assessment.  Technical lead and development of project management for various confidential international private, federal and state government/agency clients.  Continued experience in general air quality compliance activities.

b.      2002 – 2005                Project Engineer           AEC

Specialize in air quality issues and air dispersion modeling studies for the SCAQMD and Proposition 65 evaluations.  Served as an expert witness.  Responsible for various air permitting projects, risk determination, and cost-effective compliance solutions for clients.  Other tasks include environmental, health and safety compliance at the state and federal levels of regulations.  Coordinate AEC’s information technology needs.

  1. Relevant Educational Experience
    1. 2001-2002                   Graduate Student Researcher

Thesis: “The Evaluation of ISC and AERMOD With Data From Tracer Field Experiments Performed in an Urban Setting.”  Graduate work included the setting up and on-site direction of field experiments in urban settings.  From the data obtained from various scales (tens of meters to thousands of meters) of experiments, we evaluated the ISC and AERMOD air dispersion models against simpler models proposed by team researchers.

    1. 2000                            SCAQMD Student Intern

Evaluated of permits to construct and operate source emitters.  Dealt directly with consultants and private companies.  Gained familiarity with BACT for air and soil pollution.
